This week Ubiquisys technology is on show in Beijing, on the Nokia Siemens Networks stand at one of the world’s largest ICT events. China PT/Expo is the largest international ICT event held in Asia, with 500+ exhibitors, 45,000 sqm of exhibition space and over 120,000 attendees.
Nokia Siemens is demonstrating its femtocell solution live at the booth, which features Ubiquisys-powered femtocell access points produced by Taiwan’s SerComm. Both residential and enterprise models were on show, as you can see from the photos below.
China is a large and rapidly growing market for femtocells, which is not surprising considering the 900+ million mobile users and 135 million fixed broadband connections, according to Business Monitor. As 3G and 4G networks are being rolled out at a record pace, femtocells and small cells are being included as an integral part of the overall network strategy, rather than the usual follow-on technology approach. Only Ubiquisys-powered femtocells solve interference problems by individual cells sensing and adapting to the changing radio environment in real-time, proven in deployments around the world.
In addition to the femtocell devices on display, femtocell applications are also being demonstrated. One is a retail application where an SMS voucher is pushed by the femtocell when entering a store, a solution that overcomes the current problems of geo-fencing, where offers are pushed too late, in the wrong place, or not at all if A-GPS is turned-off. Another shows media integration with a Pogoplug personal cloud device.
