Next week’s Small Cells MENA event in Dubai promises to be an engaging affair. The Middle East and North Africa region comprises a diverse range of geographies and economies, with strong mobile growth as the common factor.
Several factors make the Middle East in particular a compelling market for small cell solutions. In many countries there has been a sustained and high level of mobile infrastructure investment. There are large and growing groups of affluent tech-savvy consumers with high expectations of mobile services. For mobile operators there are challenges too; cities with dense high-rise metropolitan areas, and elsewhere residential buildings of solid construction, make it especially difficult for operators to provide good indoor coverage and capacity.
The hot climate in many countries means that an even greater proportion of mobile data is consumed in indoor public places than outside, compared to the ~75% in the US, for example. Indoor metrocells are the ideal small cell solution to meet this challenge, providing higher performance at a lower cost than trying to serve customers from outdoor cells.
Innovative regional operators like Zain and Etisalat have pioneered the deployment of small cells. Ubiquisys small cell technology was amongst the first to be commercially deployed in the MENA region, and we are attending the event next week as sponsors to discuss the capabilities of the latest small cells in our portfolio. Please let us know if you’d like to arrange a meeting with us.
