At Mobile World Congress this year we were showcasing our new smart cell, designed in collaboration with Intel. If you didn’t catch our announcement, the smart cell is a new type of small cell which adds a powerful comms-tuned computing platform based on Intel® architecture. Smart cells can store, process and serve media content direct from the cell, providing an ultra-fast, high quality viewing experience whilst cutting backhaul traffic in half. They can also help protect users, for example by running virus checks in real-time – capabilities previously only available in core networks. Intel has just released a video from MWC 2012, taking a look at this exciting product, its capabilities and potential uses.
