How Smart Cells can improve Mobile Internet experience

Posted by Keith Day

At Mobile World Congress this year we were showcasing our new smart cell, designed in collaboration with Intel. If you didn’t catch our announcement, the smart cell is a new type of small cell which adds a powerful comms-tuned computing platform based on Intel® architecture. Smart cells can store, process and serve media content direct from the cell, providing an ultra-fast, high quality viewing experience whilst cutting backhaul traffic in half. They can also help protect users, for example by running virus checks in real-time – capabilities previously only available in core networks. Intel has just released a video from MWC 2012, taking a look at this exciting product, its capabilities and potential uses.

For more information on the smart cell, check out our recent blog post ahead of Steve Shipley’s talk at Small Cells Asia 2012.
