Intel and Ubiquisys: Q&A

As expected, there has been a lot of interest in our announcement with Intel. It could be because it signals a bold direction for this new generation of small-cell hotspots, or perhaps it is because people are interested in Intel’s role, or it could be because it makes “Edge Cloud” computing imminent and practical (a term I’ve borrowed from ABI Research’s Aditya Kaul). Today NEC announced that Zain Kuwait has selected NEC’s femtocell solution, following a successful user trial which started in September 2010. The solution will be used to provide a premium indoor mobile experience for Zain’s enterprise and residential customers, and the company is considering rolling out the solution at the group’s companies across the Middle East.
